As pessoas estão fartas de um sistema político e económico viciado que provocou grande parte da crise que passámos há muito pouco tempo. As pessoas e, sobretudo, os jovens estão a organizar-se e a querer sair da agenda política e financeira dominante. Nada disto tem a ver com cores ou partidos, mas sim com uma consciência e cidadania que estavam adormecidas e que são transversais a todas as ideologias políticas.

Somos inundados por soundbites com cimeiras sobre o clima, mas há aspectos estruturais que temos de resolver. Precisamos de eliminar os interesses económicos que bloqueiam estas questões. Que bloqueiam o crescimento das renováveis como ponto de partida para tudo o resto em matéria de energia. E é por isso que o relatório Mundial sobre o empenho político (ou falta dele) para as causas da sustentabilidade não podia ser mais oportuno.
De acordo com o Global Status Renewables 2019 da REN21, “a inércia em políticas de energia sustentável é responsável pela falta de progresso no alcance das Metas de Clima e Desenvolvimento” definidas pela ONU. E porquê? Talvez por algumas razões que poucos conhecemos: segundo este relatório, 26 % de toda a energia eléctrica mundial já é proveniente de fontes renováveis. Destes 26 %, apenas 10 % correspondem ao aquecimento/arrefecimento. Uma tendência exponencial, não fosse esbarrar com “as políticas erráticas e pouco ambiciosas” quanto à descarbonização; segundo este relatório, as peças regulatórias não são suficientes para criar condições favoráveis e competitivas ao sector renovável.
Passados tantos anos, o progresso é mínimo ou manifestamente insuficiente, tendo em conta aquilo que poderia existir. “É difícil exagerar na urgência” – fica-nos do discurso dramático de Guterres, no final do ano passado. Passados seis meses, o secretário-geral da ONU é capa da Time, onde grita este tema dentro de água. Do que estamos à espera?!
